Strategic Essentials
Created for novice hospital medicine leaders and aspiring leaders looking to grow their leadership skills. This course is also beneficial for experienced leaders, residents, chief residents, and fellows with an interest in developing strong leadership skills to be used clinically or administratively.
Influential Management
The Influential Management course provides leadership skills specific to the incorporation of meta-leadership styles, driving culture change through specific leadership behaviors and actions, financial storytelling, effective professional negotiation with proven techniques, and more.
Mastering Teamwork
Prominent faculty deep-dive into many of the leadership skills and practices in this session to provide participants with a better understanding of team and organizational dynamics and how their personal leadership skills can strengthen teams and improve organizational growth/success.
Leadership Capstone*
A two-day in-person program, plus an ongoing six-month learning component that allows participants to continue developing leadership skills throughout the coming year. With the completion of Capstone, participants are eligible to earn a Certificate of Leadership in Hospital Medicine (CLHM) designation.
*Please note, participants must have attended at least one previous Leadership Academy course to participate in the Capstone.

This letter outlines the value of the event and can help support your request for funding or time off to attend. There is one for individuals and one for groups of 3 or more.
Cancelation & Refunds
Cancelations must be submitted in writing via fax or email (meetings@hospitalmedicine.org). SHM Leadership Academy registration is not eligible for deferral. The postmark, fax, or email date will determine your refund using the following schedule:
- Full Refund, less $300 administrative fee, Prior to September 22, 2026
- No Refund on or after September 22, 2026
