Strategic Essentials
Course Overview
Learn how to evaluate personal leadership strengths and weaknesses, create and execute a communication strategy for key team members, understand key hospital finances and drivers, examine how hospital metrics are derived, and more in this four-day, hands-on educational course covering various hospital medicine-focused leadership skills.
Attendees are grouped at tables of 10, each with a skilled facilitator to ensure meaningful, relevant application of concepts to hands-on activities.
The Leadership: Strategic Essentials course was created for novice hospital medicine leaders and aspiring leaders looking to grow their leadership skills. Experienced leaders are welcome to join us in the course to refresh their skills and gain new tips and tricks to bring back to their team.
By the end of this new course you will be able to gain practical strategies to flexibly apply various personality styles based on team needs, organizational goals, and situational challenges to enhance their effectiveness as leaders and more.
This course is also beneficial for residents, chief residents, and fellows with an interest in developing strong leadership skills to be used clinically or administratively.
Course Objectives
- Understand your individual leadership style, and assess your strengths
- Use negotiation skills to effectively advocate the value of your hospitalist programs
- Understand key financial and performance metrics impacting your hospitals and hospitalist programs
- Create and execute a communication strategy for all key constituencies
- Implement methods of effective change through leadership, shared vision, and management of the organization’s culture
- Utilize strategic planning to define a vision for your program, prioritize efforts, and achieve designated goals
